Transition

Holy cow, I haven't been paying much attention to xanga.  I'm almost done w/ the Army.  I'll be flying back home in April and begin ETS leave.  Since I'll still be technically IN the Army until June, I'm thinking of flying Space A to Europe for free and backpack around.  A friend of mine who is also leaving might join me.

I've also applied to Art Center, RIT, and in a month or so to Brooks.  I've read up on "School vs. Self-taught/assisting", as well as the Brooks investigations, but with the new GI Bill, I'll essentially be getting a $100k discount.  Anyway, I'm excited at the prospect of finally going into photography full-time.  My parents flew into town, and I had a chance to share w/ them my plans.  They were skeptical at first, but after a good discussion, it's good to know they support me now.

What else...oh yea, I started going back to church again.  Meeting some good people at Onnuri.  Wish I'd started going earlier.  Here's a couple shots while waiting in line at Dos Tacos in Gangnam...

24 GLORIOUS inches

My iMAC just arrived!!! Even though I specifically waited for Leopard to come out, B&H Photo/Video let me down and sent me an iMAC fitted with the old system. I wanted a clean factory installation. Now it'll probably have to be an update installation. Hope I don't get the installation problems I've been reading about. Other than that...this thing is GLORIOUS! I don't have to squint anymore! The keyboard is so slick, too. Adobe CS3 is in the mail. I'm still a little stumped w/ having to learn how MACs work though. Why won't my "End" and "Home" buttons work??

Anyway...I leave you with a photobooth pic. (I'll spare you the Whoa-Neat-O Bulge/Dent/Light Tunnel effects).

On a different note: My next assignment is to 10th Mountain, Ft Drum, NY. I suppose I'll find myself in the desert inevitably. Gotta find a way to moondust-proof my camera.

Two of my photos now on display in NYC!!

I just received this email today...(w/ minor emphasis by your truly =])

World In Focus - Your images exhibited

Thanks for entering the World in Focus contest. Your image, along with every other image entered in this year's contest, is being printed and exhibited at PDN PhotoPlus Expo in New York City, from October 18 to 20, at the Jacob Javits Convention Center.

Thanks to our sponsor, Epson, we're able to print all 27,290 photos on one, massive strip measuring 154 feet long by 5 feet tall. Your image along with everyone else's image will be printed full frame or "no-cropping". However, to fit everyone's photos on this print we had to make each person's image about 2 [MIND-NUMBING!] inches on the long dimension.

If you can make it to New York for PDN PhotoPlus Expo or have friends who are attending this event, any of your entered images can be found using the co-ordinates below:

column# 57 and row#19 on panel 9
column# 58 and row#19 on panel 9

Ten winners for the amateur contest have been chosen and will be exhibited at the show. The winners will also be announced online shortly after the show is over.

If you're in the area, swing by and take a photo (if you can) of mine!  Here are the two I submitted.. (at least I think these are the ones)...

Displaced

An orphan from the Isaac Childrens Home of Uijongbu finds it difficult to enjoy himself in a Pool Party event we hosted on-post.

What I've learned in particular to their story is that in an Asian culture, it is shameful to cheat or divorce.  So children from previous marriages/affairs are often left to fend for themselves because they bring shame to the new marriage.  It's not always the case that the mother/father is too poor to take care of them either.  Some of these children are able to visit their parents for a week once a year, like a field trip almost.  But I would be so confused if I were in that position...to see my mother or father for a few days, only to return to the orphanage for the rest of the year.

"These are my parents, but why won't they keep me?  Why don't they want me?"

Some more...
